How to Get Started

The state of Iowa requires that in order for you to be able to sell real estate you must be licensed.  In order to get a license you need to satisfy the following 3 criteria:

1. Take an approved 60 hr. Pre license test course in a classroom setting or online. Prudential First Realty Pre license 2008 schedule
2. Successfully pass the national and state Real Estate Exam
3. Completed Criminal Background check Order background check packet
   

Once these requirements are completed and you have chosen a sponsor broker (who you may work for upon licensure)  who is a member of the National Association of REALTORS^®, the Iowa Association of REALTORS^®, and his/her local real estate board, you can then apply for an Iowa Real Estate License.

Other general requirements:

• Must be 18 years of age – no residency or citizenship requirement
• May not have had an application rejected in this or any other state in the last 12 months
